Socialites are playing chess on "The Real Housewives of New York City." In 1990, according to the US Chess Federation, only 4% of chess players were women. Out in the world, chess' resurgence has been accompanied by a wave of new clubs and events. I made a pilgrimage to the Marshall Chess Club, a 109-year-old institution in Greenwich Village. The following evening, I went to an East Village bar and found a very different scene at Club Chess.

The bigger pictureWhile Ho is ecstatic about Swift wearing her skort design from the perspective of a business owner and Swiftie, she's also grateful for another reason. Shares of popular athleisure brand Lululemon have plummeted this year, trailing the S & P 500 significantly. Its shares, which were included in the Wall Street index just last October, are down around 28% year-to-date. Dwyer also pointed out that Lululemon is unlikely to be exposed to any geopolitical risks surrounding China. "Millennials represent around a third to 40% in China and then Gen Z are a much bigger share of the demographic - they are fans of this brand," Dwyer. According to FactSet, Lululemon has a buy rating of 69% and analysts covering the stock give it 28.1% potential upside from the average price target.

A group of stocks are about to form a chart pattern that suggests investors are bearish: the worrisome death cross. A death cross encompasses a price chart pattern that emerges when a stock's 50-day moving average slips below its 200-day moving average. Moreover, a death cross is also touted as a predictor of a forthcoming bear market pattern. CNBC used data from FactSet to screen for stocks that are approaching a death cross, and found four names including fast-food giant McDonald's and athleisure brand Lululemon . McDonald's is once again flashing a death cross signal.

My 20-year-old niece, Emma, texted the other day to tell me she’s addicted to The Times’s game Connections; she and her friends play every day, along with the Mini and Strands. “The people who make the games need to make more fun games,” she declared. I don’t mind her treating me as her personal on-demand suggestion box for The New York Times; she’s my personal on-demand focus group for Gen Z. She’s used to my asking her about Snapchat etiquette, or which athleisure brands are cool, or if it’s true that her generation is grossed out by feet. I’d read about how younger people are getting into puzzles, but this was the first time my Gen Z rep had volunteered a report from the field. I, too, love Connections, but my deepest and most abiding puzzle romance is with The Times’s crossword.

Wall Street is not pleased that Under Armour founder Kevin Plank is returning as its CEO. Following the announcement, both Williams Trading and Evercore ISI downgraded Under Armour and lowered their price targets. Linnartz, a former Marriott International executive who took the helm last February, is the second CEO the company has cycled through in less than two years. Since she started at Under Armour, Linnartz had been focused on rehauling the company's C-suite, building out its loyalty program, UA Rewards, and pivoting the brand's assortment to a more athleisure-focused offering that had more stylish options for women. "All of the twists and turns have created a brand that has become increasingly confusing to consumers and to wholesale partners," Saunders continued.

A boomer and her husband moved to southwest Florida from Minnesota to start her clothing business. They moved to southern Minnesota, then northern Minnesota to an off-the-grid cabin an hour north of Duluth. They knew northern Minnesota was not conducive to starting a business, so they considered Florida an ideal location. She said she's also adjusting to the fishing scene in Florida, which is mainly saltwater, compared to freshwater fishing in Minnesota. The hedge fund that owns True Religion is exploring a sale of the Y2K-era jeans brand as it returns to growth and profitability after emerging from its second bankruptcy, CNBC has learned. It's unclear what valuation True Religion is seeking, but it could sell for a mid single digit multiple of its EBITDA, the people said. Farmstead Capital Management, True Religion's owner, has hired Baird to run the sale process. True Religion went public in 2003 and made headlines for its growth and profits. Buckley, who helmed the company during its 2000s heyday and returned in 2019, has transformed True Religion into a leaner machine.

One Xiaohongshu user posted what she called a "starter pack" for the "white girl aesthetic." Her checklist — apart from Lululemon gear and the Stanley cup — included items such as Apple Airpods Max headphones and Tiffany jewelry. With so much optimism infusing markets at the moment, it's almost refreshing to chat with a pessimist like Guy Pope, the manager of Columbia Threadneedle's Contrarian Core Fund. Employing a philosophy of finding out-of-favor contrarian investments, he doesn't use complicated algorithms or obscure metrics to find the stocks he adds to his fund. AdvertisementStart with pessimismWhen it comes to consistently outperforming the market, Pope credits his success to one main factor: searching areas that other people aren't focused on. That turned out to be a prescient move the following year, when the market tanked and the growth stocks that had been flying so high were brought low. Her youthful obsession realized in front of her, Ella was inspired to buy her first piece of Lolita fashion in 2015, from the popular Lolita e-tailer Angel Pretty. While Lolita style is named after Vladimir Nabokov’s eponymous teen in the controversial 1955 novel, the overlap ends there. Even 1950s-style American prom dresses, with their extravagant skirts and bodices, influence contemporary Lolita fashion, he said. The skirt's fullness, achieved through the use of a petticoat, is a key characteristic of Lolita fashion. Ella says her personal Lolita style is a blend of classic and sweet, with a healthy dose of prints and patterns.
